client: VIZTA 3D
Company Description: Look out a window. Go ahead, I'll wait. Swivel your head around—and see how everything outside looks, well, 3-dimensional? Now, come back to your monitor, do the same thing, and see if you can tell the difference. But imagine if your monitor was a window... and you can understand how amazing VIZTA 3D's Z 20|20 was. With applications in medical, military, gaming, and engineering, the concept of real 3-D was finally here.

VIZTA 3D Role/Projects: The company that became VIZTA 3D had a history of manufacturing precision optics and glassworks; they'd applied it to start a company offering holographic displays for trade shows. But with the advent of the Z 20|20, they were poised to go well beyond that niche industry, and they needed to launch from scratch—a new brand, a new look/feel, an impressive Web site, a breakthrough product. I helped create VIZTA's brand and tagline, wrote and architected their site, and, generally, helped them prepare to spread the good word. Basically, it was a complete effort from the ground up—meaning I really had a chance to mold the brand, and shape its voice, and carry that right on through to development.

The Results: vizta3d.com launched on-time and on-budget, and it was a sharp site, touting VIZTA 3D's advanced technology, branding their flagship product (the Z 20|20, coming soon), touting their genius developers, and lauding their big financial backers. "Stop imagining, start believing" became VIZTA's mantra, and everything was coming together; we were about to launch a number of industry-focused portals, and begin work on a new phase of products and customer service improvements on the site. They had just started to get some press.

And, at that point, the company's backers pulled the plug on all their funding, just as the Z 20|20 was about to hit the market, burying VIZTA (and the site). Just a sad story—really bright people with great management backgrounds (G.E.-people, mostly), incredible vision, landmark product, great to work with... Probably the best client I've had.

The Links: For the moment, I've linked to some of the VIZTA pages here from the Internet Wayback Machine, but they don't do justice to what a nice initial campaign this was for VIZTA; I'm hoping to soon mirror these here on the site. Note that a lot of small images and functionality are missing—just read this to get a feel for the copy, branding and IA.
