 Help: Enhancements

Need to make your pictures sharper, take out that ugly red-eye, or use some fun special effects? The PhotoToolbox can do all that and more—and you can even experiment all you want before changing your photo.

First, pick "enhancements" or "special effects." Then click the box next to the enhancement/effect you want to try. Next, just click on the photo and you'll be able to see how it will look with the effects you've selected. You can then choose to save your changes or undo them with just a click—it's as easy as that.

Enhancements
These are designed to help you improve the quality of your pictures. They may not always work for every image, but you can just choose to undo the changes after you've seen them if you don't like them. Try a combination of enhancements for the best results.
  • Enhance: If your image has extra, unwanted flecks, this may improve its quality (for example, if falling snow is in the way).
  • Despeckle: If a solid block of color is speckled with unwanted colors, this may remove the extra color.
  • Contrast: Makes the differences clearer between the lighter and darker elements of the image, making it more detailed.
  • Crop: Allows you to cut out an area of the image you don't want (like the ex-boyfriend in the picture).
  • Reduce Noise: Smoothes the edges of an image.
  • Sharpen: Sharpens the quality of the image, for more detail (great for letters and text that are blurry).
  • Mirror Horizontal: Creates a mirror image horizontally (like holding up the picture in a mirror).
  • Flip Vertical: Creates a mirror image vertically (like holding up the picture in a mirror, and then standing on your head...try it).
  • Rotate: Rotates your image a certain number of degrees (depending upon where you click on your image). Like turning the image ever so slightly.
  • Remove Redeye: Helps reduce the red-eye effect in your pictures.
