Westbury, NY, July 30, 1997 - 1-800-FLOWERS, World's Favorite Florist, today announced it has become an official sponsor of the 55 year-old Entertainment Industry Foundation's (EIF) first national program to raise vitally needed research dollars for breast and ovarian cancer.

As part of the partnership, 1-800-FLOWERS will be marketing a special floral arrangement co-designed with EIF's ambassador for women's health, Pierce Brosnan - the Pink Ribbon Bouquet. The company will donate 25 percent of the proceeds on sales from this product to support funding for this important research.

"We're looking forward to our partnership with EIF to help fight cancer," 1-800-FLOWERS' President Jim McCann said. "We're based in Long Island which has a track record of being one of the hotbeds of cancer, especially breast cancer. So, given our location, we have a very personal stake in this fight. Breast and ovarian cancer continues to threaten people's lives everywhere, not only in our community, but we have personal stories of survival within our company as well," McCann said. "With our Pink Ribbon Bouquet, we'll be able to provide some of the needed funding for cancer research that we hope will ultimately lead to a breakthrough."

"The Entertainment Industry Foundation/Permanent Charities is delighted that the research programs we have helped fund have led to such substantial strides toward treatment technologies which may someday cure women's cancer," noted EIF/PC Emeritus Chairman Gene Hackman. "We are thrilled to join with 1-800-FLOWERS in this extraordinary funding program which may allow great medical minds to take us all the way to a cure."

The Pink Ribbon Bouquet, an arrangement of pink and white blooms in a vase adorned with the pink ribbon that is a symbol of breast cancer awareness, will debut in October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Its launch will also be in conjunction with the airing of a television special on the Lifetime network. A mix of personal victory stories and information about the latest research being conducted to prevent and treat the debilitating diseases, the special will be hosted by actor Pierce Brosnan, who lost his wife Cassandra to ovarian cancer and Jaclyn Smith. The program will also include appearances by Halle Berry, Helen Hunt, Rosie O'Donnell, Angela Lansbury and others.

The Entertainment Industry Foundation and 1-800-FLOWERS will launch their new relationship with a special press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 13th at 10:30 a.m., to outline the national Pink Ribbon Bouquet initiative endorsed by Pierce Brosnan. Joining Jim McCann and Julie McCann-Mulligan of 1-800-FLOWERS will be EIF's president and CEO Lisa Paulsen and board member Lilly Tartikoff , as well as representation from the organization's roster of celebrity ambassadors .
